This is the "Penny Benny" statue at 4th & Arch St. in Philly's Old City section. If you ever come to town you'll see the nine foot bronze statue on the wall next to the firehouse. The statue incorporates keys donated by schoolchildren and replaces the original that was made up of pennies.
While your there take a minute and step inside the recently restored sitting park. This quiet little park was recently restored by some neighbors after years of neglect. It is now a little gem in the Historic District that many people walk right by.
I spend a lot of time at this Firehouse either filling in for the Chief or working overtime so I have been able to watch the transformation over the past two or so years. There is also a fountain in the park that they were trying to get working but at this point haven't had any luck. The neighbors whop adopted the park did so after getting no help from the city after years of complaining. It's good to know that there are still people who care about our city. Nice job gang.
